A podiatrist is a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), known also as a podiatric physician or surgeon, qualified by their education and training to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the foot, ankle and related structures of the leg.

Meet Our Podiatry Surgeons

Ryan Chatelain, DPM

Dr. Ryan Chatelain received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.  He earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from Barry University in North Miami, FL. He completed his residency at Mountain Home VA in Johnson City, TN which included a year of advanced training at Foot & Leg Specialists in Atlanta.  Dr. Chatelain has been an attending physician and assistant professor with ETSU Quillen Physicians Department of Surgery for the past seven years. He is certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery and performs a variety of foot and ankle procedures with special emphasis on diabetic limb salvage.  He is a Wound Care Specialist Physician certified by the American Board of Wound Healing and has obtained training in the supervision of hyperbaric oxygen therapy.  Dr. Chatelain practices at the Center for Comprehensive Wound Care at Johnson City Medical Center where he is the Medical Director for a team of wound specialists and has previously supervised hyperbaric therapy as well. He serves as co-Director of the Lower Extremity Amputation Prevention meetings at Johnson City Medical Center in an effort to promote an evidence-based approach to limb salvage at the hospital.  Dr. Chatelain resides in Johnson City, TN with his wife and two sons.

Phillip Riley, DPM

Dr. Riley earned his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine and Master of Science-Biomedical Sciences from Barry University.  He received a Master of Science-Behavioral Neuroscience and Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida, and his Associates of Arts from Daytona Beach Community College.  He obtained his Podiatric Orthopedic and Podiatric Surgical Residency at the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center.  He was a Residency Director for several years in California before joining the Surgical Department at East Tennessee State University.  He specializes in pediatric foot and ankle pathology, bone problems such as bunions, hammertoes, and arthritis, and skin problems such as ingrown toenails, painful skin lesions, and ulcerations.
